The unusually warm Scottish summer months have flown by, with July and August filled with plenty of sun, fun and judo!

Following our annual two week summer break, July started off strong with this years edition of our kids' summer camp. We had ten days packed full of fun games and team challenges on our busiest holiday camp to date. There was plenty of new faces, friends and family members who came along this year, showing that our camps can offer much more than just judo!
Each day at camp gives participants the space to develop their physical and social skills, make new friends and create lifelong memories. Camp also provides the ideal platform for our young volunteers to learn leadership skills and gain confidence under the guidance of our qualified coaches; creating the next generation of mentors in the judo club and beyond.
Our next camp will take place during the October half term break and is available to book now via the button below!

To mark the start of the countdown for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Sarah A had the pleasure of meeting Finnie, the official mascot of the games!
We’re very proud of the success EdinburghJudo athletes have had at previous Commonwealth Games, including Sarah retaining her title of Commonwealth Champion with a gold medal at the 2022 Games in Birmingham - is it time for a third? You’ll have to wait and see!
There will be three days of judo competition at the Games, taking place on the 31st of July, 1st of August and 2nd of August. You can register your interest for tickets to watch the action in Glasgow next year via the button below:

Congratulations to Dan, who was presented with his black belt by Billy after obtaining his 1st Dan points over the summer at a competitive grading day in South Shields.
A great achievement, and lovely to share the occasion with his very proud family!

Club coach and player Andrew L made the trip to Poland for the 2025 European University Combat Sports Championships, alongside our friend Hannah W from the Edinburgh University Judo Club.
Andrew and Hannah were selected for the event following their gold and bronze medal performances at the British University and College Championships (BUCS) in March, with Andrew representing Edinburgh Napier University and Hannah representing the University of Edinburgh.
Alongside a team of 13 GB judoka from universities up and down the country, the pair got to enjoy all that an international multi-sport event offers, including opening and closing ceremonies, three exciting days of competition and some sightseeing too - a great experience to round off their time at university!

The fourth edition of our 6-week Beginners Judo Course for adults kicked off in August, with another enthusiastic group taking their first step in their judo journey with us.
Since launching our very first Beginners Judo Course in October last year, we’ve helped over 75 adults achieve their red belt, improve their fitness, meet new people and have fun along the way.
We can't wait to see this group progress over the next 6 weeks and continue to grow our wonderful community!

As we say goodbye to summer and head into September, the club is back operating at full swing with lots of busy classes, and plenty of hard work being put in both on and off the mat! With the autumn school term beginning, we've welcomed members back for judo at our external school sessions and our community classes too.
September is set to be an action packed month featuring competitions, training camps and our senior gradings taking place at the club. Look out for all of that, and more, in the next round up!
See you then,
The EdinburghJudo Team ⛩️
