Another busy month has flown past here at EdinbughJudo. From our members showcasing their skills, determination, and sportsmanship across various competitive events, to lots of new belts obtained at gradings - here’s a look back at some of April's highlights!

The month began with a good away trip for those who fought at the 2025 Northern Ireland Open. It was the first time at this event for some, and the first time ever travelling on a plane for Kirsty! Some tough contests for the group at this ranking event, but lots of experience gained at this level and more memories made as a team.

Well done to Hazel and Archie who both claimed bronze medals in the senior -70KG and +100KG categories, respectively! And thank you to Gav for coaching and looking after the players across the weekend.

Huge congratulations to Kirsty and Archie who achieved the last points they needed for their black belts in spectacular style at the National Dan Grading in Ravenscraig - becoming EdinburghJudo’s newest 1st Dans - and to Calum and Chris who obtained all the competitive points required for their 2nd Dan!

Kirsty and Archie were presented with their black belts by Billy at the club, and they both walked into EdinburghJudo just over 13 years ago as pre-school kids. Years of consistent effort and incredible support from family, friends and coaches all led to them earning their black belts at age 17. A massive achievement and we’re so proud of you both.

Well done to Dave, Dan, Ash, Andrea, Rafal, Nick and Euan who all picked up points towards their next grade at the National Dan Grading too. A lot of good positive judo on display and progress made, great work everyone!

We had seventeen club members participating in the Clyde Grand Prix from A Band right up to Senior, so it was a long and busy day out in Paisley. As well as those competing in the event, we had Davie on the table as contest recorder and Kirsty refereeing matches; even Hazel jumped in to help with some timekeeping!

We are very proud of the attitudes displayed at the event, particularly from our younger players who were keen to go out and give it their all - even though for some it was their first competition! There was great determination and tenacity shown by all, coming back strong into the next match even after setbacks or losses. A lot of positives and points to work on back in training as we continue to move upwards to the next event

Thank you to Sarah and Craig for coaching the team, and to Clyde Judo Club for organising another successful event. Well done to everyone who stepped up to compete, and congratulations to those who came away with a podium finish:

Well done to all 35 senior members who successfully completed their latest grading to round off the month!

There was great technical judo demonstrated by everyone who took part across the three evenings of grading to achieve their next belt, ranging from 6th kyu (red belt) to those who achieved their 1st kyu (brown belt). A lot of hard work and preparation over the past few weeks has paid off and we are very proud of everyone who has taken the next step in their judo journey!

Coming up in May we have the club gradings for our juniors, so our younger members will be continuing to work hard on their judo skills in class over the next couple of weeks as they prepare towards their next belt.

For those looking towards summer, we will be hosting two weeks of Summer Camp throughout the school holidays: Monday 14th July - 18th Friday July and Monday 21st July - Friday 25th July.

Summer Camp is open to members, non-members, family and friends aged 5+ and is set to be filled with fun games, team challenges and lots of judo action! So if you're looking for something to keep your child active and engaged this summer, book our Summer Camp by clicking the button below and clicking the "CAMP" tag at the top of the page.

You can also check out a short video below showing a glimpse of some of the action from last year's Olympic Games themed Summer Camp!
